ROLE DEBUT Ruggero, La Rondine: What the critics said

La Rondine Post show 2014 IFORD

Following James' role debut of Ruggero in Puccini's "La Rondine" for Iford opera in June 2014 the following extracts have been taken from national press reviews:

Opera Magazine writes: 'The naive, infatuated Ruggero was touchingly portrayed by James Edwards, whose ardent tenor gave 'Paris, the city of desire, a broadway heft and he was very convincing in the seduction scene. Chris Turner's elegant warm tenor contrasted well with Edwards' s larger sound.'

Backtrack writes: 'As Ruggero, James Edwards is smooth and Strong on all his notes, singing with superb accuracy. Sincere and straitforward, with just a hint of the prude, Edwards makes the perfect foil...'

The Guardian refers to: 'James' strength of voice as Ruggero'

The Telegraph writes: 'James sings carefully throughout and turns up the emotional volume in the last act'
