Biography

English tenor, Alexander James Edwards,  began singing as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. 

He made his BBC Proms debut in 2006, and his concert engagements have included Rossini's Stabat Mater with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Gounod St Cecilia Mass with the Huddersfield Choral Society,  Berlioz Messe De Morts with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Mozart Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Verdi Requiem at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, The Sage Gateshead and the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Opera Galas with the Mikkeli City Orchestra, The City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Halle,  Proms in the Park with the RPO, Classical Spectacular concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, for Raymond Gubbay Ltd, The Battle Proms at Althorp Park and Classical Open Air Concerts at Leeds Castle. His recent Opera Schedule has included Pong Turandot for The Royal Opera House Covent Garden,  Rodolfo La Boheme and Pinkerton Madam Butterfly at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Ruggero La Rondine for Iford Opera, Rinnuccio Gianni Schicchi for Opera Holland Park, Alfredo Traviata for Lyric Opera Productions Dublin , Duke Rigoletto for Grange Park at Neville Holt, Foresto Attila for Theatre Lübeck Cavaradossi Tosca for English Touring Opera and Pinkerton Madam Butterfly for Opera North.

In 2011, Alexander James Edwards was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music by the Governing body of the RAM for distinguishing himself in the field of Opera. Alexander is an alumni of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Young artists programme.
